Will I be paid?

You will not get paid for jury service, as it is a public duty rather than a job, or a form of employment.

You can claim an allowance for financial loss, though, if you lose income as a result of jury service. You can also claim for reasonable travel costs and you'll receive a daily allowance towards refreshments.

This section explains what to do if you are going to lose income - maybe because your employer will deduct your pay; you are self-employed and won't be able to work, or other reasons such as having to employ a childminder. It also gives details on claiming for travel and other costs.

There are maximum amounts you may claim which are set by law and you'll find these on the allowances sheet that was sent with your summons. You can also download a copy from this section.
